You remember that waiver Ferris and the gang signed to get into the Eventide at the beginning of the story? Turns out as part of the fine print they don't offer assistance with vampires unless compulsion magic is involved on premises. Szelek's only job is to make sure you leave under your own, non-compulsed power, NOT that you make it home in one piece.
Panel 1: Ferris taps the tips of his index fingers together, with a cute, innocent and sparkly-eyed expression, and says "Uh right... any chance you know how to get to the Staged Hangover or the Varrosh Opera House? I got a bit turned around." Even the text box has hearts to show how thick he's laying on the act.
Panel 2: Szelek holds his chin, considering Ferris for a moment. There's an eyeline drawn right to Ferris' neck to indicate that Szelek is looking for fang marks, which are not present. Szelek muses, "I bet. I'm surprised Javier didn't give you directions if he let you go." Ferris in turn senses the eyes on his neck and hovers a hand uncomfortably in response to Szelek's statement. Ferris cocks an eyebrow "Let me go? Wait.."
Panel 3: Ferris angrily confronts a surprised and slightly annoyed Szelek, pointing a finger in Szelek's face as he shouts (with some spittle) "You knew he was a vampire?!"

I head canon that there’s been at least a few incidents at the Eventide where he had to testify before a magistrate and argue that people leaving with “night creatures” wasn’t part of his responsibility as a bouncer.
